The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana to maintain strict professional standards as the field grows, emphasising that excellence must anchor pharmacy training and practice.
Speaking on Sunday, June 28, as the Special Guest of Honour at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi for the society’s 90th anniversary, the Asantehene noted that the future of Ghanaian pharmacy rests on the caliber of its professionals rather than sheer numbers.
He challenged pharmacists nationwide to prove their vital role in the healthcare system by prioritizing patient-centered care.
The anniversary event allowed members to review the history of Ghana’s pharmacy education and propose future advancements.
Otumfuo also pressed the government to focus on strategically integrating pharmacists into the national healthcare strategy to improve system-wide efficiency.
”I will state this plainly, no health system can function effectively without a strong, well trained and properly utilized pharmaceutical workforce. Investments in healthcare must include deliberate attention to the development and deployment of pharmacists across all levels of care. I expect that we will move forward and clarify discipline and purpose,” he stated.
