The founder of the Life Assembly Worship Centre and the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has described the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held today, 1 July 2026, as a complete waste of public resources.
The politician, entrepreneur, and prophet described the state event as entirely needless.
He argued that those who advised President John Dramani Mahama to organise the service failed to offer him any sound counsel.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Christian Kwabena Andrews noted that the exercise was not an initiative the country should be wasting money on.
Instead, he maintained that the funds used to organise the event should have been directed towards dredging choked drains or dealing with the severe floods that have caused havoc in areas hit by recent torrential rains.
He strongly advised President Mahama not to allow self-styled men of God to deceive him into holding such events.
Expressing his frustration, he stated: “The President should be guided and not allow these so-called men of God to deceive him into organising the national thanksgiving and prayer service. It has no relevance; it is a waste of public resources. It will amount to nothing and will have no impact. God has already done His part, and our duty is to apply the wisdom He has given us in transforming lives and making the country work. Organising a prayer and thanksgiving service is a waste of money. This is not what we need now. We have to do what is right and stop sinning if we want to progress.
“President John Dramani Mahama could have asked Ghanaians to pray in their various churches and homes, and rather use the money from organising the event to mobilise excavators to desilt the choked drains. That would have been much better. God lives within us, and when we engage Him, He can use us to do wonders. I can best describe the event as a concert.”
He further added that the pastors pushing the President into these initiatives are busybodies who have nothing useful to do, urging President Mahama to stop listening to them.
“We have already been praying and don’t need this. The best we can do is to pray individually in our churches. The prayers said at the event cannot even cross the ceiling of a building, let alone reach the heavens and God,” he concluded.
