Police in the Western Cape have launched a murder investigation after a 35-year-old Ghanaian national was shot dead in Nyanga on Monday afternoon.

Mr Kwabena Boagen, who lived in Khayelitsha but worked in Nyanga, was killed at the Nyanga Terminus outside a local salon at around 15:45.

Emergency medical services declared him dead at the scene.

Detectives believe the killing is connected to ongoing extortion rackets in the area, though the gunmen remain at large.

Health officials are performing a post-mortem examination in line with standard South African protocols, and authorities have extended their condolences to a relative of the deceased.

Separately, the South African Police Service addressed a media release from the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding a second alleged murder in Khayelitsha.

State officials confirmed they have no record of that incident and have urged Ghanaian authorities to supply specific details so that a formal inquiry can begin.
