Inferior security hardware a ‘costly risk’ for Ghanaian homeowners, businesses – Industry Chief

The managing director of Grazio Door and Nails has urged Ghanaians to invest in high-quality doors and locks for their safety, warning that buying cheaper, substandard products proves far more expensive in the long run.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 7th Trade and Industry Week in Accra, Dennis A. Mensah said that security products must be robust enough to protect both lives and property.

He argued that it is better to invest in what people perceive to be expensive rather than purchase low-standard products, which become costly when the inevitable happens.

The three-day summit, held at the Palms Convention Centre, brings together the 4th Africa Build Show and the 3rd MEGAWATT Africa.

This year’s theme focuses on powering Ghana’s 24-hour economy by integrating infrastructure, energy, and sustainable real estate to drive trade competitiveness and industrial transformation under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Mr Mensah said such events offer exhibitors a vital platform to interact with visitors, buyers, and industry stakeholders.

However, he warned that an influx of importers dealing in doors, locks, and accessories has increased the threat of inferior products entering the Ghanaian market.

He indicated that businesses within the sector must prioritise importing quality products over quick profits, adding that buyers should never compromise their security by purchasing inferior goods.

He noted that his company has spent years ensuring customers receive top-quality items, but argued that the government could do more by introducing more stringent measures to ensure strict quality control across the industry.

When investing in doors, locks, and other security systems, Mr Mensah stressed that consumers must look at the long-term benefits.

He said that once people have valuable items in a property, it is important to protect them with something valuable as well, advising buyers to look for high-security options instead of medium or low-security systems that can easily be compromised.

Matters of security, the business owner added, ultimately depend on human life, meaning people must do their best to protect themselves.

He further advised fellow business owners to use in-depth market research to import goods from the best global sources.

“Buying cheaper and inferior or substandard products is rather costly in the long run. Doors, nails and other products that provide security must have what it takes to secure not just our property but provide us with safety.

”It is better to invest in what we perceive to be expensive than to purchase low-standard products, which are rather costly, especially when the inevitable happens.”

Grazio Door and Locks supplies a range of security doors and furniture locks sourced from Italy, the United States, and Turkey, alongside kitchen and bathroom fittings, and Turkish-made doors for homes and offices.

Beyond individual consumers, the company serves a wide range of clients including banks, hospitals, schools, hostels, furniture manufacturers, real estate firms, and architectural practices.

To ease the pressure on clients, the firm also operates a door-to-door delivery service to save customers from the stress of driving through city traffic.
