The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has interdicted four officers for their alleged involvement in an attempted diversion of transit cargo into the local market.
This action forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen customs enforcement and safeguard state revenue.
The interdictions follow an investigation into the interception of 18 trucks in February 2026.
Although declared as transit cargo travelling from Togo to Niger via the Akanu border, the vehicles were suspected of being diverted for sale within Ghana, which would have denied the state significant import duties and taxes.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, July 7, Commissioner-General Anthony Sarpong confirmed that the four officers are currently undergoing the Authority’s internal disciplinary process.
He emphasised that any officer found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with internal policies and the law.
Mr Sarpong also disclosed that, under a directive from the Ministry of Finance, the seized consignment has been allocated to the National School Feeding Programme.
He reassured the trading public that the GRA Customs Division remains vigilant, having increased border compliance to secure revenue mobilisation and prevent illicit trade.
