The Minority Leader, Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has demanded that the Attorney General appear before Parliament to answer for the recent actions of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
His call follows the arrest of Miracle Dennis Edward Aboagye, the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
Miracles Aboagye is currently under investigation over an alleged GH¢55 million financial and procurement irregularity, and has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties.
Speaking on the floor of the House, the Effutu lawmaker warned that political fortunes can easily shift, urging colleagues to treat the matter with the utmost seriousness.
While clarifying that he does not oppose transparency, Afenyo-Markin strongly criticized the security agency’s approach, stating,
“We are not against accountability but the “Rambow” style EOCO used to arrest Miracle Aboagye is condemnable”.
According to the legislator, the manner of the arrest sets a dangerous precedent for Ghana’s democratic credentials.
He further pointed out that Aboagye was already traumatised after losing his household properties to recent flooding in Accra, adding that “now EOCO has added more soar to the injury it is not fair on the part of the government”.
