The National Steering Committee of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has annulled the constituency executive elections held in Bantama, Afigya Sekyere East, and Adansi Asokwa over the weekend.
The decision, which takes immediate effect, was reached at a National Steering Committee meeting on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, to review the conduct of the internal polls.
According to the party, the elections in the three constituencies were conducted in “flagrant disregard of Party directives, the Rules and Regulations governing the 2026 Constituency Executive Elections, and, where applicable, subsisting court orders”.
Consequently, the leadership of the party has summoned the Ashanti Regional Steering Committee to appear before it on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, to explain the circumstances surrounding the irregularities.
Furthermore, the disputed election in Asante Akyem Central, alongside other unresolved constituency disputes, has been referred to the Electoral Affairs Committee of the National Council for advice and recommendations.
In a joint statement signed by the Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey, and General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party reassured its members of its commitment to democratic principles.
“The Party wishes to assure all members that it remains firmly committed to upholding the rule of law, ensuring strict compliance with its Constitution and Regulations, and preserving the integrity, credibility, and transparency of its internal democratic processes,” the statement concluded.
