The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has launched its latest environmental drive, targeting the planting of 30 million seedlings this year following the successful restoration of more than 23,000 hectares of degraded country landscapes.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, revealed that the new campaign builds directly on the momentum of 2025.
Under the Tree for Life Programme last year, approximately 31 million seedlings were planted, successfully reclaiming about 23,600 hectares of degraded land.
The minister highlighted encouraging survival rates from the 2025 cohort. Seedlings planted in the northern savannah zone recorded a success rate of between 50 per cent and 78 per cent, whilst those in the High Forest Zone achieved an even stronger survival rate of between 65 per cent and 85 per cent.
Capitalising on these results, the ministry is aiming to plant a further 30 million seedlings during the current cycle.
The initiative commenced on 5 June and will run until the end of the rainy season to ensure the young plants benefit from optimal growing conditions.
