The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has successfully brokered a deal between the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited, clearing the way for the immediate handover and opening of the Weija Children’s Hospital.

The agreement brings an end to a prolonged standoff over the facility, which will now be opened for public use to enable the commencement of specialised healthcare services.

In a press statement, EOCO revealed that the agreement was reached despite several unresolved issues surrounding the project.

These include outstanding financial claims by the contractor and procurement concerns raised by the project’s financier.

According to the anti-graft agency, the parties mutually agreed to prioritise the public interest so that the completed facility can begin serving its intended purpose without further delay.

“The agreement to hand over and operationalise the hospital does not in any way affect or prejudice the investigations currently being conducted by EOCO,” the statement clarified.

The agency assured the public that its investigations into allegations of procurement breaches, financial impropriety, and other related matters concerning the hospital project remain active and ongoing.

While commending both the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited for placing the national interest first, EOCO reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public resources and ensuring that public infrastructure projects deliver their intended benefits to the people of Ghana.
