President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government has commenced the process of granting financial clearance to the Ministry of Education to recruit at least 16,000 newly trained teachers across the country.
According to the President, the strategic move forms part of aggressive efforts by his administration to effectively clear the lingering backlog of graduate teachers who have been left awaiting formal employment after completing their studies.
Addressing a gathering at the Peki College of Education in the Volta Region, President Mahama emphasised that the timely recruitment is heavily intended to address the unnecessary delays that graduates face within the education sector.
He noted that it is entirely unacceptable for newly trained professionals to wait indefinitely for postings after successfully navigating their academic programmes.
He assured stakeholders that the financial clearance would significantly streamline the transition from the lecture halls directly into the classrooms.
The President further reiterated the commitment of the government to systematically improving the human resource capacity of Ghana’s educational institutions.
He explained that expanding the teaching workforce would not only provide much-needed livelihoods for the youth but would also go a long way to ease the pressure on existing staff and improve the overall quality of basic and second-cycle education nationwide.
