President John Dramani Mahama engaged residents, traditional leaders, students and civil society groups during a community engagement and question-and-answer session in Ho as part of his #ResettingGhana Tour of the Volta Region, addressing a wide range of issues relating to healthcare, education, infrastructure, transportation, accessibility and economic development.
Responding to concerns raised by participants, the President announced Government’s intention to upgrade the Hohoe Municipal Hospital into the Volta Regional Hospital, while strengthening the Ho Teaching Hospital’s role as the region’s premier teaching and referral facility. He disclosed that feasibility studies and designs for the project would commence in the coming months.
On transportation and infrastructure, President Mahama reaffirmed Government’s commitment to implementing the national Railway Master Plan, including the Eastern Corridor Railway, to improve freight transportation, reduce pressure on roads and support economic growth. He also highlighted ongoing investments in road infrastructure and efforts to improve water supply through the revival of the Adidome Water Project.
Addressing concerns about public sector appointments, the President explained that his administration had deliberately reduced the size of government to improve efficiency and reduce costs, while assuring party supporters and qualified citizens that opportunities for national service would continue to emerge.
President Mahama also outlined measures to promote inclusivity, including the introduction of free tertiary education for persons with disabilities in public institutions and plans to improve access to healthcare through the engagement of sign language interpreters at major health facilities.
On education, he reaffirmed Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality learning through the continued provision of digital learning devices, the construction of additional secondary schools, and the planned upgrade of Ohawu Agricultural College into a fully-fledged agricultural university.
The President further encouraged innovation and research, commending students and faculty members for their contributions to practical learning, scientific advancement and entrepreneurship.
He concluded by assuring residents that Government remains committed to addressing their concerns through practical interventions and sustained investment in projects that improve livelihoods and accelerate development across the Volta Region and the country as a whole.
