Five suspects have been remanded into police custody following an intelligence-led operation targeting human trafficking and cybercrime in Kwabenya, Accra.
The suspects—Chigozi Azubuike, 35; Edwin Onyema, 24; Kingsley Nwanchukwu, 29; Henry Ebuke, 32; and Harrison Godwin, 26—were arrested on 12 July 2026.
Briefing the press, Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Donkor, revealed that officers acted on intelligence received on 11 July.
A criminal syndicate had trafficked 18 young Nigerians into the country, holding them in a Kwabenya residence and forcing them into cybercrime.
Officers rescued all 18 victims, who are now in safe custody under the care of relevant authorities.
Police also retrieved 52 mobile phones and several wireless internet routers, which have been secured for forensic analysis.
The five suspects appeared before Accra Circuit Court 7 on 16 July 2026 and were remanded to assist with ongoing investigations.
