Members of Parliament (MPs) have shared their expectations ahead of the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review on the floor of the House today, Thursday, 23 July 2026.
The presentation date was announced in Parliament on Tuesday, 14 July, by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, during the laying of the Business Statement for the week.
The Mid-Year Budget Review is expected to provide an update on the implementation of the 2026 main budget, assess the nation’s economic performance over the first half of the year, and outline necessary fiscal policy adjustments.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Parliamentary Correspondent, Boshyeba Afriyie, the Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Hon. Owen Kwame Frimpong, expressed optimism in the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
He stated that the Minister’s track record inspires confidence that he will deliver a budget that serves the best interests of Ghanaians.
Hon. Frimpong urged the Minority caucus to participate constructively in the process, dismissing their criticism of the government’s performance as unfounded.
He maintained that available economic indicators demonstrate that the country is progressing on the right trajectory.
However, the MP for Akim Oda, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, called on the government to prioritise funding for the Agenda 111 hospital projects initiated under the former administration.
He noted that the GH¢100 million allocated in the main 2026 Budget to complete 10 of the hospitals was grossly inadequate, pointing out that procurement for machinery for a single facility alone could exceed $100 million. He urged the Finance Minister to allocate sufficient funds to ensure the completion of these critical health facilities.
On his part, the MP for Berekum West, Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah, expressed confidence that the Finance Minister would not ask for supplementary funding, citing prudent financial management so far. He noted that he expects only minor policy realignments aimed at keeping government spending strictly within existing allocations.
Adding his voice, the MP for Efia Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, said he expects a detailed account of how funds allocated in the 2026 Budget have been utilised. He further demanded full accountability from the government regarding expenditures under the Nkokonkitinkiti Programme.
The 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review will be presented by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
