Ghana’s economy has recorded a historic milestone after crossing the $100 billion threshold for the first time, driven by a real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expansion of 6.0 per cent in 2025—marking the nation’s strongest growth trajectory since 2019.
The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, disclosed this on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, 23 July 2026, whilst laying the Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2026 Budget.
He emphasised that strict fiscal discipline, sound financial governance, and steady execution of economic policies have yielded positive outcomes for the nation.
“Mr speaker, the results of the last eight months demonstrate that discipline policies, competent economic management and consistent implementation delivers tangible results,” he stated.
Dr Forson highlighted that non-oil GDP surged by 7.6 per cent in 2025, representing the highest growth performance recorded in 14 years.
“Instructively Mr Speaker non-oil GDP grew by seven point six percent in twenty-five. The highest rate in fourteen years. Demonstrating that Ghana’s recovery extends well beyond favorable commodity prices,” he told the House.
According to the Finance Minister, this robust economic momentum sustained into the first half of 2026, with real GDP expansion climbing to 6.4 per cent and outperforming initial projections.
He further announced a significant gain in the country’s average income per head over the one-year period.
“Ghana’s per capital income increased by more than eight hundred and fifty dollars in just one year. Mister Speaker, rising from two thousand five hundred and twenty-seven dollars in twenty twenty-four to three thousand three hundred and eighty-five dollars at the end of twenty twenty-five,” Dr. Forson said.
