President John Dramani Mahama will embark on a four-day official visit to Kingston, Jamaica, from Sunday, 2 August to Wednesday, 5 August 2026, aimed at strengthening historical ties and pushing for global reparations.

The official visit is structured to deepen long-standing diplomatic links between Ghana and Jamaica, while expanding structured collaboration with the broader Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The trip comes on the heels of Ghana’s recent provision of relief support to Jamaica following a major natural disaster. President Mahama’s presence in Kingston will highlight Ghana’s commitment to its Caribbean partners and reinforce the unity between Africa and its Diaspora during times of recovery.

Championing the global reparations movement remains a central pillar of the visit. Building upon Ghana’s leadership within the African Union alongside CARICOM’s ongoing initiatives, President Mahama will participate in a high-level Reparations Dialogue at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus.

He will be joined by Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of UWI and Chairman of the CARICOM Reparations Commission.

Honouring shared Pan-African heritage, the President is scheduled to lay a wreath at the shrine of National Hero

The Right Honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey at National Heroes Park. He will also tour the preserved Ghanaian Village Houses at Seville Heritage Park in St. Ann to reflect on the deep-rooted ancestral connections binding the two nations.

During the four-day visit, President Mahama will engage in high-level bilateral talks at the Office of the Prime Minister focusing on trade, culture, and South–South cooperation.

He will address a joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament at George William Gordon House to present his vision for a robust Africa–Caribbean partnership.

Additionally, he will participate in a Trade and Investment Dialogue, tour the Kingston Freeport with the Port Authority of Jamaica, receive a courtesy call from Opposition Leader Mark Golding, MP, and attend the “Mello-Go-Roun” cultural event during Jamaica’s 64th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen and Lady Allen will also host a State Dinner in his honour at King’s House.

In a official statement released on Thursday, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), emphasized the broader strategic significance of the state visit.

“This important visit will set a new direction for Ghana–Jamaica relations, help Ghana become a gateway for CARICOM’s engagement with Africa, and show a united effort in seeking reparations, economic strength, and South–South cooperation worldwide,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.
