UK authorities halted ShattaFest after severe overcrowding and a subsequent stampede compromised public safety at the venue.
The festival, which was set to feature Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale as a primary attraction, had drawn massive crowds from across the United Kingdom and internationally before exceeding its permitted crowd limit.
Following the intervention, event organizers Ghana Party in the Park issued an official statement advising attendees to avoid the area while first responders handled the emergency.
“Due to a major incident at the festival site, the event has been temporarily paused.
Please do not travel to or come to the festival site until further notice.”
The statement noted that law enforcement and emergency responders were actively controlling the scene.
“We kindly ask everyone to stay away from the area to allow them to carry out their work safely.
We will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation.”
Video footage showed a UK police officer confirming the shutdown, stating, “There’s been a massive accident, a stampede which led to quite a lot of people getting hurt, and for that reason and for public safety it has to be shut down.”
