The Ministry of Health (MoH) has inaugurated a seven-member investigative committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the recent disturbances at the Nursing Training College in Techiman-Krobo.
Chaired by Prof. Vida Nyagre Yekong, the Deputy Registrar of the Health Facilities Regulatory Authority and former Dean of the School of Nursing at the University for Development Studies (UDS), the committee has been tasked with uncovering the root causes of the tension and providing actionable recommendations to restore calm.
Speaking on the mandate of the panel, official directives from the Ministry indicated that the committee will establish the full facts surrounding the incident and evaluate institutional compliance with established protocols.
“The committee is expected to establish the facts surrounding the issues which led to the unrest in the school, review and determine whether existing policies, code of conduct and administrative procedures have been complied with,” the Ministry stated.
The probe comes following mounting unrest at the health training facility, prompting swift intervention from sector leaders to prevent further disruption to academic work and clinical training.
Members joining Prof. Yekong on the investigative panel include Mr Ahmed Bennett Mumuni, Human Resource Manager of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council; Nana Asa Akon Panin, Techiman-Krobohene; and Mrs Hepthzebah Gyimah, Deputy Director of Operations representing the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
The panel also features Mrs Isha Sena Iddrisu, Secretary to the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions; Mr Nashiru-Deen Akparibo, President of the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA); and Dr Inua Yussuf Issahaku Esq., Legal Director at the Ministry of Health.
To ensure long-term stability at the institution, the Ministry emphasised that the panel must “make recommendations to the Minister for Health for appropriate action” once its assessment is complete.
The committee has been placed on a tight schedule to deliver its findings to the ministry.
“The committee is further expected to submit a comprehensive report to the Minister on or before 11th August, 2026,” the statement added.
