Four people have died and several others sustained severe injuries following a dynamite explosion at Aboso in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when local residents attempted to blast out a large snake that had been terrorizing the community.
According to local authorities, the reptile had sought refuge in a nearby refuge, prompting residents to use explosives in an attempt to kill it. The resulting blast triggered a massive explosion, killing four people instantly and leaving several others with critical injuries.
Emergency services and local police responded to the scene to secure the area and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
Investigations into the unlawful handling and deployment of the explosives are currently underway.
