President John Dramani Mahama has made key changes to his government, nominating new Ministers of State and reassigning existing cabinet members to different portfolios.
In an official press release issued on Friday, August 7, 2026, by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the nominations were made in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
The names of the nominees have been officially submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for prior vetting and approval.
Under the new nominations, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has been tipped to head the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
Similarly, Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, has been nominated to lead the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
In addition to the new appointments, the President has reassigned two serving ministers to handle critical sectors within the executive.
Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been reassigned to take charge of the Ministry of Defense, while the MP for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim, now moves to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
Parliament is expected to refer the new nominations to its Appointments Committee in the coming days to commence the consideration and vetting process.
