At least ten people are feared dead following a horrific multi-vehicle collision at the Ofankor barrier on the N6 highway in Accra.
Several others sustained varying degrees of injury in the fatal crash, which occurred on Thursday at approximately 4:00 am on the express lane heading towards Achimota from the Pokuase stretch.
According to preliminary details from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the crash involved four vehicles: two tipper trucks, a commercial minibus, and a motorised tricycle, popularly known as an ‘aboboyaa’.
The impact of the crash left the minibus badly mangled, with several passengers trapped inside the wreckage as emergency crews worked tirelessly to cut through the twisted metal.
Personnel from both the Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service arrived swiftly at the scene to manage rescue operations, retrieve the victims, and maintain law and order.
The early morning disaster has triggered heavy vehicular gridlock along the busy highway. Police officers deployed to the scene are currently diverting traffic onto the outer service lane to ease the mounting congestion while rescue efforts continue.
