The Ashanti Regional Police Command has secured two separate convictions at local circuit courts, resulting in a combined 25-year prison sentence with hard labour for two armed robbers operating in the Kumasi metropolis.

In the first case, 19-year-old Ahmed Mustapha received a 15-year sentence from the Asokwa Circuit Court Two following a violent attack in Asabi, within the Asokore Mampong Municipality.

On 21 July 2026, Mustapha ambushed a 25-year-old man near the Asabi Presbyterian Church, inflicting severe cutlass wounds to his forehead, neck, and left hand before stealing his mobile phone.

Officers from the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team apprehended Mustapha while he attempted to hide in an uncompleted building nearby, recovering both the stolen phone and the cutlass. The victim was rushed unconscious to the KNUST Hospital, where he was subsequently treated and stabilised.

Presiding Judge Her Honour Vida Achiaa Yeboah convicted and sentenced Mustapha on 10 August 2026, after he entered a guilty plea to charges of robbery and causing harm.

In a second ruling on 14 August 2026, the Atasemanso Circuit Court sentenced 22-year-old Christian Owusu to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for a daytime robbery.

Owusu accosted a woman heading towards Konkromase Township on 21 July 2026, threatening her before making off with her handbag containing cash and personal effects. Police officers arrested Owusu on 4 August 2026 following targeted investigations.

Appearing before His Lordship Mr. Kwaku Baah Frimpong, Owusu pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery and begged the court for leniency, prompting the judge to hand down the minimum ten-year custodial sentence.

Spokesperson for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, confirmed that both convicts have been transferred to the Kumasi Central Prisons to serve their respective terms.
