President Mahama inaugurates committee to oversee GH¢1B Bawku Revitalisation Fund

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a five-member committee to oversee the implementation of the GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund, which seeks to support infrastructure and other development priorities in Bawku and surrounding districts.

The committee, chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, includes Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga; His Royal Majesty Cletus Abugri, Chief of Tempane; Upper East Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga; and Member of Parliament for Garu, Dr Thomas Winsum Anabah.

At the inauguration at the Presidency on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, President Mahama said funding for the initiative had been secured, paving the way for implementation following significant improvements in the security situation in Bawku.

The President said the fund was established after government received the report of the Otumfuo Mediation Committee in December 2025, which renewed efforts to restore peace and development in the area.

He noted that the prolonged conflict had disrupted public services and stalled major development projects, including the Tamli Dam project.

With relative peace returning to Bawku, President Mahama said government would work to revive stalled projects and ensure the area receives its fair share of national development.
