The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has urged the Auditor-General alongside Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee to launch a swift forensic investigation into the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) regarding its recent spending spree to determine whether taxpayers are receiving true value for money.
The advocacy organisation has similarly petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to step in directly to freeze additional release of funds whilst demanding strict accountability from the authority’s executive management.
Addressing journalists in Accra, a prominent member of the group, Dr Samuel K. Frimpong, stressed that immediate measures must be taken to stem potential financial recklessness. He indicated that the public can no longer bear the burden of funding secret operations and lavish lifestyles of political figures, pointing specifically to the 1.7 billion cedi operational loss recorded by GoldBod.
Dr Frimpong highlighted that the board’s financial filings for 2025 demonstrate unchecked expenditure amounting to GH¢78,000,664.32. He expressed profound unease over multiple multi-million cedi allocations that remain veiled in secrecy and weighed down by administrative overspending.
