The Ashanti Regional Police Command has disclosed that two out of six suspects arrested in its latest intelligence-led operational sweep—alongside another suspect currently at large—were previously in police custody for armed robbery offences.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kumasi, the Regional Commander revealed that the suspects, identified as Adam Samed, alias Toronto, and Abdul Shata, were initially picked up by the police on 6th December 2025.
They were charged with conspiracy to commit crime, namely robbery and attempted robbery.
The Regional Commander explained that the duo were subsequently arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court 1. However, while the case remained pending in court, the accused persons were granted bail.
According to the police chief, fresh intelligence and ongoing investigations indicate that upon their release from custody, some of the suspects allegedly returned to their criminal ways and resumed active armed robbery operations within the metropolis.
The police command further noted that whilst Adam Samed is back in custody, Abdul Shata managed to evade capture during the latest swoop.
The command confirmed that Abdul Shata is currently at large, and intensive operational efforts are underway by police tracking teams to locate and apprehend him to face justice.
