Former WBO super-bantamweight world champion Isaac Dogboe has announced his retirement from professional boxing at the age of 29, bringing an end to a decade-long career in the ring.
The Ghanaian fighter, known as “The Royal Storm”, confirmed his decision to step away from active competition following discussions with his family and management team.
“After much prayer, reflection, and conversations with my loved ones, I have decided that the time is right to step away,” Dogboe said in a statement.
“Boxing gave me a platform to represent Ghana on the highest global stages and fulfil a childhood dream of becoming a world champion. I am deeply grateful to my team, my family, and above all, the people of Ghana for their unwavering support throughout this journey.”
Born in Accra and partly raised in the United Kingdom, Dogboe represented Ghana at the London 2012 Olympic Games before turning professional the following year.
He rose swiftly through the super-bantamweight ranks, culminating in a career-defining performance in April 2018 when he stopped Jessie Magdaleno in Philadelphia to claim the WBO world title.
His reign included a successful defence against Hidenori Otake later that year, before losing the crown to Mexico’s Emanuel Navarrete in back-to-back bouts.
Dogboe subsequently moved up to the featherweight division, mounting a fresh campaign that earned him a challenge for the vacant WBO featherweight title in 2023.
He hangs up his gloves with a professional record of 24 wins and 4 losses, including 15 victories by knockout.
Looking ahead, Dogboe stated that he plans to remain involved in the sport through grassroots youth development and mentorship projects aimed at nurturing future boxing talent in Ghana.
