Stabilisation was only the price of entry; long-term transformation is the goal – Ato Forson

The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has declared that the government has successfully navigated the path to economic stabilization and is now fully shifting gears towards long-term structural transformation.

Speaking after kicking off high-level engagements with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry earlier today, the Finance Minister emphasised that stabilizing the macroeconomy was never the ultimate end goal, but a necessary step to unlock real development for the nation.

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review, Dr Forson said: “Through the New Economy agenda that we will unveil, we will build an economy that does not merely withstand shocks but creates jobs, generates wealth and grows on the strength of what Ghana produces.”

“Stabilisation was never the destination. It was the price of entry. Ghana has paid that price. What comes next is the work that changes lives at scale—the work of transformation!” Dr Ato Forson stated.

The inter-ministerial talks mark the formal rollout of key consultations under the government’s ‘New Economy’ agenda.

The initiative aims to push beyond basic fiscal management by driving aggressive industrialisation, bolstering local manufacturing, and positioning agribusiness as a primary engine for job creation and sustainable economic growth.

According to the Minister, the state is now focusing its policy tools and fiscal space on direct sector interventions that will create sustainable employment, improve livelihoods, and build resilience into the Ghanaian economy.

President John Dramani Mahama has since announced that the programme will involve a US$10 billion investment in key sectors of the economy.

The President said the full details of the transformational programme would be presented in the 2027 Budget in November.
