The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the National Harmonised Prospectus for both prospective boarding and day students preparing to enrol in Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools (SHS/SHTS) for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The initiative aims to establish a standardized, consistent, and transparent admission process across all public secondary schools nationwide ahead of the release of official school placements. Education authorities have instructed school administrators and relevant stakeholders to strictly adhere to the guidelines, while advising parents and guardians to review the required list to ensure early preparation for their wards.
Under the national framework, day students are required to procure a mathematical set, a scientific calculator, a school bag, decent school-specific sandals without embellishment, and black or white sneakers.
Boarding students are expected to acquire a hard-body suit case or trunk, a wooden or plastic chop box, a drinking cup, a plastic or stainless plate, a set of cutlery, a plastic bucket with a cover, a pail, a student mattress, a pillow, two plain white bedsheets with two pillow cases, a blanket, and sleeping cloth.
Their personal clothing and footwear requirements include decent sandals, a pair of leather slippers, decent black or white sneakers, two pairs of socks, pyjamas or sleepwear, a pair of khaki trousers, a pair of white or school-specific trousers, two white shirts comprising one short sleeve and one long sleeve, two checked dresses where applicable, a white dress for ladies, a school-specific shoe, and a school-specific belt.
Underwear allocations specify five pants and three vests for girls, alongside three boxer shorts or pants and three singlets for boys.
Boarders must also possess toiletries comprising one deodorant, one pack of toilet roll, toothpaste, a toothbrush, soap, pomade, and two packs of sanitary pads for female students.
Additional academic, religious, and utility requirements for boarders include a mathematical set, a scientific calculator, a school bag, a student-sized mosquito net, med shea organic mosquito repellent, a hoe or cutlass, and an RSV or NIV Bible, Quran, and school-specific hymn book for Christian students.
In addition to individual personal items, students are required to buy cleaning and maintenance items from any single group among three designated options. Group one consists of a pair of hard hand gloves, five litres of liquid soap, and one kilogramme of washing powdered soap.
Group two comprises a small bottle of bleach, a dustpan, a long-handle broom, and a scrubbing brush. Group three contains a standing mop with a mop bucket, a duster, and a short local broom.
The Ghana Education Service emphasises that all personal belongings brought to the school grounds must be clearly embossed or embroidered with the student’s name.
