Residents of New Winneba, New Ateitu, and Ahwere Nkwanta in the Effutu Municipality are living in constant fear following a violent land dispute attack allegedly launched by youth from nearby Gomoa communities.
The brutal confrontation left three people dead and 19 others injured, prompting traumatised locals to flee their homes and sleep in surrounding areas for safety despite security deployment.
In the wake of the terror, the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, accompanied by the Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP George Bossman Ohene Boadi, visited the Trauma and Specialist Hospital to assess the condition of the injured and obtain first-hand information.
Hon. Eduamoah interacted with victims and medical personnel, assuring residents that necessary measures were being implemented to restore lasting peace and security.
Adding his voice to the call for peace, the Chief of Ahwere Nkwanta, Nana Kow Gyan, urged the government to intervene urgently to resolve the longstanding land litigation threatening local stability.
Similarly, the Assembly Member for the Kojo Baidu North Electoral Area, Patricia Rassel, appealed to both sides for restraint, warning against actions that could further escalate the conflict and lead to more bloodshed.
Meanwhile, the police have stepped up enforcement to contain the situation. DCOP George Bossman Ohene Boadi confirmed that calm has been restored and disclosed that six suspects have been arrested in connection with the deadly clash.
The suspects will be processed for court to face prosecution as security agencies continue monitoring the affected communities to safeguard lives and property.
