Police in Central Region have launched an investigation after a prominent local campaigner and spiritualist was found dead in a suspected suicide.

Baba Ibrahim, 52, also known as Alhaji Nagode, was discovered at his home in Assin Amoabeng, near Nyankumase Ahenkuro, at around 06:40 GMT on Monday.

His 14-year-old daughter told local media she discovered the body after returning from taking her younger sibling to school.

According to the daughter, she found her father hanging by a rope around his neck.

She raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to gather at the scene.

Mr Ibrahim, a father of seven who worked as a farmer and traditional practitioner, was well known locally for campaigning against illegal mining and environmental damage.

Although police have yet to confirm the cause of death, his daughter noted that her father was involved in an ongoing court dispute with a community member, which had been due for a hearing on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Local assembly member Ekow Sadique Aidoo confirmed that the matter has been reported to the authorities as inquiries continue.
