In a firm demonstration of commitment to protecting citizens abroad, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that the Ghanaian government has successfully brought home nearly 7,000 compatriots who were trapped in perilous situations across the globe.
Addressing journalists during a media briefing yesterday, the Minister disclosed that collaborative operations with international partners from 2025 to date have ensured the safe return of 4,972 distressed citizens from countries including Libya, Cambodia, and Kuwait.
This figure comes on the back of recent emergency evacuation efforts in South Africa, which saw 1,964 Ghanaians safely transported back to Ghana, bringing the total number of repatriated citizens to 6,936.
According to Mr Ablakwa, the state remains resolute in its duty to safeguard the welfare and dignity of every Ghanaian, regardless of where they find themselves in the world.
He stressed that any threat to a Ghanaian national abroad is considered a direct threat to the entire nation, reiterating that the Ministry will continuously rise to the challenge to ensure no citizen is left stranded or exposed to harm.
