Dismissal of recruits who forged their results not enough; prosecute them and conduct an audit of the recruitment process – Analyst

September 10, 2026
Saani-Adib

The Executive Director of the Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, Adib Saani, has demanded the immediate prosecution of recruits recently dismissed from Ghana’s security services training schools for submitting forged WASSCE results.

Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the security expert emphasized that dismissal alone is an insufficient punishment because forgery is a clear criminal offense under the law.

He warned that failing to prosecute these individuals would turn credential falsification into a low-risk endeavor, urging authorities to bring offenders to justice to serve as a strong deterrent and asking for the exact number of involved recruits to be disclosed.

In addition to legal action against the recruits, Saani called for a comprehensive audit of the entire recruitment setup, pointing out severe cracks and gaps in how applicants are currently vetted.

He stressed that officials must thoroughly investigate the system to determine whether these failures stemmed from administrative lapses, operational inefficiencies, or deliberate criminal collusion by insiders who allowed unqualified individuals to slip through.

”Dismissal cannot be the end,” he stressed. “Forgery is a criminal offense, and failing to prosecute creates a low-risk environment for fraud. We must fully investigate whether this was caused by administrative inefficiency or deliberate collusion, and prosecute all responsible parties to protect state security.”

Expanding on these operational flaws, Adib Saani argued that recruitment into the nation’s security agencies cannot operate on a system where documents are accepted first and verified much later.

He posited that the recruitment portal should instead be redesigned to facilitate early, automated verification of academic credentials directly with WAEC before any applicant is permitted to progress through the selection process.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the security analyst framed the incident as a major national security disaster rather than a simple case of fraud.

He raised deep concerns over how these recruits managed to beat the system, beat approval checks, and undergo rigorous training before being discovered.

Because these individuals were exposed to police intelligence, physical tactics, and potentially weapon handling, Adib Saani cautioned that their dismissal without further action essentially breeds a new generation of criminal consultants.

He warned that individuals who demonstrate an integrity deficit by falsifying academic qualifications could leverage their specialized tactical knowledge to assist criminal syndicates in bypassing police operations in the future.

”Unfortunately, these recruits entered training before their results were verified. You don’t need a rocket scientist to see how dangerous this is,” Mr. Saani noted. “We do not know the extent of their training—whether in intelligence gathering, weapon handling, or tactical operations. By dismissing them without prosecution, we risk breeding the next generation of criminal consultants. If we are not careful, criminal groups will hire them to navigate and evade Police Service operations.”

This urgent commentary comes in response to disclosures by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, regarding the dismissal of the compromised recruits.

The Jatikay Centre maintains that until the state takes a decisive, structural approach to fixing these security protocols and holding both the recruits and negligent officials accountable, the overall safety and security of the nation remain severely compromised.
