The Executive Director of the Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, Adib Saani, has expressed grave concern over the recent dismissal of Ghana security recruits who presented forged WASSCE results.
Following the disclosure by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, Mr. Saani warned that dismissal alone is an inadequate response. Speaking on Rainbow Radio’s Nyankonton Mu Nsem, he described the breach as a critical national security threat rather than a mere administrative fraud.
He questioned how unqualified applicants bypassed initial screening to undergo training, exposing them to sensitive security protocols. Having received operational instruction, these individuals pose an active threat and could be recruited by criminal syndicates seeking police intelligence.
“Unfortunately, these recruits entered training before their results were verified. You don’t need a rocket scientist to see how dangerous this is,” Mr. Saani noted. “We do not know the extent of their training—whether in intelligence gathering, weapon handling, or tactical operations. By dismissing them without prosecution, we risk breeding the next generation of criminal consultants. If we are not careful, criminal groups will hire them to navigate and evade Police Service operations.”
Mr. Saani urged the government to overhaul the recruitment portal to ensure real-time verification with WAEC prior to admission, eliminating the practice of post-enrollment screening.
He also called on authorities to disclose the exact number of compromised recruits, initiate criminal prosecutions, and conduct an independent audit of the entire recruitment pipeline to address internal lapses or complicity.
“Dismissal cannot be the end,” he stressed. “Forgery is a criminal offense, and failing to prosecute creates a low-risk environment for fraud. We must fully investigate whether this was caused by administrative inefficiency or deliberate collusion, and prosecute all responsible parties to protect state security.”
