The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the official commencement of visa waiver arrangements between the Republic of Ghana and three partner nations: the Republic of Maldives, the Republic of Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda.
The agreement follows the formal ratification by the Parliament of Ghana and the subsequent entry into force of the bilateral pacts. Under the new framework, eligible Ghanaian passport holders can now enter all three countries without securing an entry visa prior to travel, provided they adhere to the specific terms set out in each agreement.
The waiver applies to all individuals holding Ordinary, Service, and Diplomatic Passports. Under the agreed terms, Ghanaian travellers heading to the Republic of Maldives and the Republic of Zambia are granted a maximum stay of 30 days, while those visiting Antigua and Barbuda are permitted to stay for up to 90 days.
Addressing prospective travellers, the Foreign Ministry emphasised that entry without a visa does not absolve citizens from adhering to local laws. “Visa-free entry does not exempt them from complying with the immigration and entry requirements of the country of destination,” the statement clarified.
The Ministry further instructed that travellers must possess a valid passport alongside any required supporting documentation, warning that visitors must not exceed the permitted duration of stay. It also noted that the waiver does not apply to individuals seeking long-term relocation or work. “Travellers intending to undertake employment, study, residence or any other activity for which a permit or specific authorisation is required must obtain the appropriate approval from the relevant authorities,” the statement added.
Members of the public planning trips to these destinations are advised to verify health regulations and current entry guidelines through official channels or the nearest Embassy or High Commission before departure, as travel requirements remain subject to change.
Reaffirming its diplomatic mandate, the Ministry noted that it remains committed to facilitating the seamless movement of Ghanaian citizens abroad while continuing to strengthen bilateral relations with international partners.
