Retired Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan has commended the Black Princesses for their spirited performance at the 2026 U-20 Women’s World Cup, urging them to build on the experience despite their early departure from the tournament.
Ghana’s campaign in Poland came to an end on Saturday, 12 September, following a painful 4-0 defeat to France in their final Group C fixture. The Black Princesses had earlier bounced back from an opening-day defeat to secure a crucial victory over South Korea, but the loss to the French proved decisive.
Reacting to the team’s exit, Gyan—who serves as the brand ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and colts football—insisted the future remains bright for the squad.
He encouraged the players to keep their heads high, refine their skills through continuous hard work, and return to the international stage even stronger.
“There are more opportunities. I know some of you will be asking yourselves, ‘Where do we go from here? What are we going to do?’ But I can assure you that nobody knows tomorrow,” he said in a meeting with the players.
“It will be ending day by day. So, just have faith in yourself. Keep on doing your training. Keep your faith high. And I’m sure the future is bright because of the way you’ve performed from day one till now; nobody can say anything bad. But we didn’t get the result we wanted.
“We are out, but we are not done. From here, we think about ourselves. We think about how we are going to come back stronger.”
