The Colleges of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG) has expressed deep outrage over the tragic death of Mr Abdulai Issaka, a lecturer at Gbewa College of Education, warning that no position, uniform, or authority should ever be placed above the law.
Reacting to the incident, the association called on state authorities to ensure full transparency during investigations, while urging full disclosure of the circumstances leading to the lecturer’s death. CETAG emphasized that the bereaved family must receive all necessary assistance and support during this difficult period.
Addressing the heightened tensions on campus, the association appealed for calm among staff and students at Gbewa College of Education as state institutions carry out their enquiries.
“We understand the anger, pain, and frustration that may accompany such a tragic loss; however, we urge all members of the College community to allow the investigative and judicial processes to take their course,” the statement read.
Extending condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased, leadership condemned any excessive application of power. CETAG maintained that the loss of a dedicated lecturer remains a heavy blow to the teaching profession and the nation.
“Our message is clear: we condemn brutality, we condemn the unlawful use of force, and we demand a credible investigation,” the leadership affirmed, insisting that the circumstances surrounding the death must not be swept under the carpet.
Firmly rejecting any attempts to excuse the killing, CETAG reminded the public and security agencies that the life of every Ghanaian matters, adding that no curfew violation could ever justify the unlawful taking of a human life.
The association pledged to monitor the situation closely, assuring the college community that national leadership remains committed to engaging relevant authorities until accountability and justice for Mr Abdulai Issaka are fully served.
