The Government of Ghana has declared Monday, 21 September 2026, as a statutory public holiday to observe Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day across the country.
The announcement was contained in an official statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
In the statement, the Minister urged the general public to observe the day in accordance with the statutory provisions governing public holidays in the country.
“The general public is hereby informed that Monday, 21st September, 2026 marks Founder’s Day, which is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the Minister stated.
The national holiday honors the birthday and legacy of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, acknowledging his monumental role in the country’s struggle for independence and his contributions to Pan-Africanism.
Businesses, government offices, financial institutions, and schools across all sixteen regions are expected to remain closed on the day as Ghanaians join in the national observance.
