The District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, has dismissed reports alleging that an existing classroom block at Mankranso will be demolished to make way for the construction of a new 24-hour model market.
Rebutting allegations made in a viral social media video by Baabi Dehyee Kwaku, the NPP Communications Officer for the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, Hon. Sedik described the claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated. He stated that the assertion that a school structure would be pulled down for the market development is entirely baseless.
“My attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media by Baabi Dehyee Kwaku, the Communications Officer of the NPP in the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, concerning the construction of the 24-hour market at Mankranso,” the DCE noted. “I wish to state clearly that the claims made in the video are false, misleading and politically motivated. The attempt to create the impression that an existing Classroom Block is going to be demolished to pave way for the construction of the 24-hour model market is simply untrue.”
Clarifying the status of the infrastructure in question, Hon. Sedik explained that the classroom block referenced in the video was erected in 2022 but has remained unused since its completion. He characterized the original construction as a misplaced priority relative to the pressing developmental needs of the local population, but maintained that the facility will not be affected by the market development.
“Let me state categorically that no one is going to demolish the said school building to construct the 24-hour market. The market project is being undertaken and has nothing to do with the demolition of that school facility,” he affirmed.
Highlighting the scope of the project, the DCE emphasized that the 24-hour market is a major economic initiative designed to improve trading conditions, expand commercial opportunities, and spur overall socio-economic growth across Mankranso and the wider district.
Hon. Sedik urged the public to disregard the viral video, describing it as malicious propaganda intended to undermine genuine local development through partisan politics.
“As District Chief Executive, my focus remains firmly on development and improving the lives of the people of Ahafo Ano South West. I will continue to support projects that bring meaningful and lasting benefits to our communities,” he said.
