Effia MP demands Education Minister brief Parliament over SHS placement mess

The Member of Parliament for Effia, Hon. Isaac Yaw Boamah, has described the ongoing Senior High School (SHS) placement exercise as “unhealthy and untidy,” calling for urgent parliamentary scrutiny over the matter.

According to the lawmaker, several students have been posted to schools far from their homes, creating severe financial and logistical hurdles for parents and guardians. He is urging the Ministry of Education to appear before Parliament to explain the operational bottlenecks and outline measures to prevent similar occurrences in subsequent years.

”The challenges that are coming as a result of the school placement shouldn’t have happened because we learn from the past, and when we learn from the past, we become better. Though I don’t know why we regress—we continue to make more mistakes and find challenges. So, as an MP, I think the Minister of Education will have to come back to Parliament and tell us exactly what challenges they face.”

He added that it is unhealthy and untidy for students to be having challenges with placement.

Hon. Boamah made these remarks while presenting basic educational supplies to 600 newly admitted SHS One students within the Effia Constituency.

The items, valued at approximately GH¢450,000, included trunks, mattresses, school bags, stationery, and food provisions.

The donation marks the second consecutive year of the MP’s support scheme, designed to ease the financial burden on families and ensure no child is prevented from taking up their admission due to lack of funds.
