The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) have held a landmark technical meeting to establish a joint framework aimed at tracking and tracing illicit financial inflows within Ghana’s gold trading sector.
Supported by the United Kingdom Ghana Gold Programme (UKGGP), the engagement marks the operational start of a partnership designed to transition both institutions from broad commitments to an active, structured working relationship.
Speaking during the meeting, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to collaborating with EOCO to ensure all gold transactions align with domestic and international compliance frameworks.
“We give full support to management and look forward to ensuring that the gold trade is conducted in compliance with local and international standards. These frameworks are from credible sources and are traceable,” he stated.
He highlighted that closer cooperation with EOCO will boost intelligence sharing, sharpen monitoring mechanisms, and help disrupt illegal financial networks tied to the gold trade.
Adding to this, EOCO’s Head of Investigations, Felix Mawulolo Amegashie, underscored the strategic importance of gold to the national economy. He noted that the partnership provides both agencies with enhanced visibility over financial flows in the sector, strengthening efforts to sanitise Ghana’s gold market.
The UKGGP continues to back Ghana’s drive toward a transparent and responsibly sourced gold industry by providing international best practices and technical expertise to the initiative.
