The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has clarified that no physical structures were impacted during the clearance of the right of way for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.
Speaking during the official handover ceremony of the cleared corridor to the government on Monday, 14 September 2026, the Director of Engineering Services at GAF, Brigadier General Jonas Wiafe, stated that no real estate—including completed or uncompleted mud and sandcrete buildings—was destroyed during the exercise.
Military personnel cleared roughly 175.6 kilometres of land, traversing farmland and forest reserves across the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti regions.
Brigadier General Wiafe disclosed that initial compensation payouts have already been disbursed to more than half of the affected farmers, with 469 individuals receiving their funds so far. Payouts range between GH₵1,500 and GH₵350,000, determined by property valuation assessments provided by the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
“This valuation and payment process, I must state, will obviously be recorded as one of the shortest turnaround periods in the construction industry,” he noted.
“As of today, the first tranche of compensation payment has been released to 469 farmers and the process is ongoing,” he added.
Approximately 800 farmers are expected to receive disbursements by the end of the exercise. Brigadier General Wiafe reassured remaining claimants that funds are readily available and that processing remains actively underway.
