The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has ordered its members to immediately halt all premature parliamentary campaign activities across all constituencies nationwide.
In a directive issued by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC), the party warned that individuals engaging in activities with parliamentary campaign undertones, whether directly or indirectly, must cease such actions with immediate effect.
The decision follows extensive deliberations by the FEC regarding the conduct of some party members who have begun pursuing parliamentary ambitions ahead of the official declaration of internal elections.
According to the party leadership, members are strictly cautioned against organising or participating in gatherings that seek to advance parliamentary candidacies before the official opening of nominations.
“Members are accordingly cautioned against organising or participating in meetings, engagements, tours, donations, public appearances or any other activities intended, or reasonably perceived, to promote or advance a parliamentary candidature ahead of the official opening of nominations,” the statement signed by the General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, read.
The party executive stressed that early campaigning threatens the internal stability of the organization, warning that violators will face strict disciplinary procedures.
“The Party considers such premature activities inappropriate and potentially disruptive to its unity, cohesion and orderly functioning. Any member who disregards this directive shall be subject to disciplinary action and severe sanctions in accordance with the Party’s Constitution, rules and regulations,” the statement cautioned.
All regional, constituency, branch, and other party officers have been tasked to enforce strict compliance with the directive and report any violations to the appropriate national authorities.
Reaffirming its dedication to maintaining a level playing field, the NDC assured its membership that formal guidelines and timelines for selecting parliamentary candidates will be announced at the appropriate time.
“The NDC remains committed to a transparent, orderly and credible process for selecting its Parliamentary Candidates. The Party will, at the appropriate time, officially communicate the opening of nominations and the applicable guidelines,” the statement noted, urging all members to remain disciplined in the interest of party unity.
