Residents threaten protest against Ga South MCE over road row

Hundreds of aggrieved residents at Mile 11, near the Kasoa Toll Booth, are preparing to stage a massive demonstration against the Ga South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Moses Kabu Kubi Occansey, and the Assembly over alleged political incompetence and corruption.

The community is petitioning President John Mahama, Local Government Minister Hon. Mahama Ayariga, and Roads and Highways Minister Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza to intervene immediately. The anger stems from the Assembly’s decision to halt a privately funded project upgrading a 2.5-kilometre inner road.

According to residents, the road had been an unmotorable death trap for years. Relief came when a philanthropist stepped in, spending millions of Ghana cedis to deposit over 600 truckloads of gravel in preparation for asphalt paving.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the leader of the Residents Association, Mr Antwi Bosiako, voiced the community’s outrage over threats by the local authority to destroy the work already completed.

“The most painful aspect is that the Ga South Municipal Assembly, led by the MCE, has threatened to demolish the newly gravelled road simply because the benefactor refused to hand the funds over to Assembly engineers,” Mr Bosiako stated.

Motorists and residents who rely on the stretch have joined the call, urging central government to call the MCE to order before the situation escalates.
