Police in the Tema Region have arrested a 32-year-old ex-convict, Bright Atsu Kudiabor, for allegedly posing as a military officer and extorting money from residents in Ashaiman.
The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, 16th September 2026, around 7:00 a.m. at a location popularly known as “I Shall Return,” where he was reportedly parading himself as a soldier and demanding money from unsuspecting members of the public.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service in Ashaiman, supported by local residents, initially apprehended Kudiabor before handing him over to the police. A subsequent search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a set of military camouflage uniforms.

The Tema Regional Police Command confirmed the arrest in an official statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs, ASP Dede Dzakpasu. The command indicated that the suspect remains in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations and will be processed for court once inquiries are concluded.
“The Tema Regional Police Command cautions the public to be vigilant and report persons who falsely present themselves as soldiers or belong to other security agencies to deceive or extort money from members of the public,” ASP Dzakpasu stated.
