The Government of Ghana has cleared a huge debt burden on the Takoradi–Agona Junction Road expansion project, handing over US$78 million in outstanding arrears to the main contractor to ensure seamless progress.
Following the financial push, the 23.0-kilometre rehabilitation and dualisation project is now firmly on track for full completion and handover by the end of November 2026.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, confirmed the development during a working inspection of the corridor to assess the status of physical works.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of construction, the Minister noted that the clearance of arrears removes the primary bottleneck that previously delayed the critical road network.
Local contractor Justmoh Construction Limited gave assurances during the visit that all remaining earthworks, paving, and dualisation tasks would be finished within the revised timeline.
“The next time we come here in November, we will be taking over the completed project without fail. We thank all the people living along the corridor for their cooperation during the construction,” the Minister stated.
The dualisation of the Takoradi–Agona Junction stretch remains a key infrastructural priority for the Western Region, designed to significantly ease vehicular congestion, improve haulage efficiency around the Takoradi port corridor, and drastically reduce road traffic accidents once fully operational.
