Rising narcotics trade tarnishing Ghana’s image – Security analyst

September 17, 2026
Asiedu Tetteh

Security analyst Andrews Asiedu Tetteh has warned that Ghana’s international reputation is facing serious damage due to the surge in drug trafficking, cautioning that swift official action is needed to save the nation’s standing on the global stage.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr Asiedu Tetteh noted that the country is already battling global infamy over cybercrime, romance fraud, and offences involving minors.

“Ghana is already linked with romance scams, cybercrime, and offences against minors. We cannot afford to add drug trafficking to that list,” he cautioned, urging security institutions to crack down on narcotics cartels immediately.

His remarks follow sharp criticisms raised by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who publicly condemned intelligence officers aiding transnational syndicates.

Speaking at a recent public forum, the Minister expressed deep disappointment that personnel trained, vetted, and deployed to protect the realm are betraying state trust to collude with illicit syndicates.

Backing the Minister’s stance, Mr Asiedu Tetteh asserted that rogue officers do not operate in isolation, suspecting high-level complicity within institutional structures.

“These personnel involved in such illicit acts cannot operate without a big hand supporting them from within the system. It is time for our security leadership to sit up, weed out the bad nuts, and act decisively for the country’s good,” he added.
