A commercial motorcyclist, popularly known as an okada rider, is seeking justice after being allegedly assaulted and attacked with a cutlass by a prison officer and three inmates at Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.
The victim, identified as Opoku Afriyie, recounted that the incident occurred after he was hired by a client to transport a sack of yams.
According to Afriyie, while performing the task, an officer from the Ghana Prison Service, accompanied by three prisoners, confronted him and accused him of stealing the load.
He alleged that before he could clarify the situation, the officer and the inmates physically assaulted him, attacking him with a cutlass during the ordeal.
Following the alleged assault, the officer and the prisoners escorted the injured rider to the local police station. Recognising the severity of his injuries, police officers directed that he be taken immediately to the hospital for medical treatment.
The victim’s family has expressed outrage over the incident, denying the theft allegations and demanding a thorough investigation to ensure the prison officer faces the full rigours of the law.
The Kenyasi District Police Command has launched an investigation into the matter to ascertain the facts.
