Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has assured Senior High School students across the country that the government has secured sufficient food supplies to prevent shortages as schools resume for the new academic term.
He gave the commitment during an official visit to Tarkwa Senior High School to monitor the school’s readiness for the academic year and engage with both students and school administrators.
Acknowledging recent public anxiety regarding the volume and quality of meals provided in second-cycle institutions, the Minister emphasized that the government has taken decisive action to fix the issues.
Mr. Iddrisu revealed that President John Dramani Mahama has explicitly instructed a complete review of the feeding model under the Free SHS policy to upgrade the quality of food provided to students.
Addressing the students, he said, “I will follow further to examine the data and we will ensure that you don’t lack food. We have made adequate provision for your meals. I’m happy to announce that President Mahama has directed that we review your meals to make it better.”
He added that the Ministry of Education has been closely collaborating with institutional heads and management teams to guarantee seamless academic activities from day one.
The monitoring exercise at Tarkwa SHS forms part of a broader nationwide tour by the Education Ministry to oversee the smooth reopening of Senior High Schools.
