A tragic accident at the Brewery Traffic Light in the Asokwa Constituency of Kumasi has claimed the life of a roadside trader identified as Jennifer.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday, September 21, 2026, after a heavy-duty forklift suffered a brake failure and veered off the road towards vendors stationed near the traffic intersection.
According to an eyewitness, Ama Sefa, she and the deceased, who sold pawpaws at the junction, were operating along the carriageway while vehicles were halted by the red light.
She explained that once the traffic signal turned green, both traders moved away from the live lanes to wait on the shoulder for the next traffic cycle.
It was during this pause that the runaway heavy vehicle lost control and mounted the area where they were standing.
Ama Sefa managed to dive out of harm’s way, but Jennifer became trapped. She was struck and dragged by the machinery, dying instantly at the scene.
Local police were alerted to the incident to secure the area, manage traffic flow, and convey the body to the mortuary as investigations begin.
