Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora to draw inspiration from the country’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, to propel national development and economic freedom.
In a statement to mark Founder’s Day, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) described Dr Nkrumah as a visionary whose commitment to liberty, Pan-African unity, and self-reliance established Ghana as a global beacon of hope.
Reminding citizens that the project of nation-building remains unfinished, Mahama urged the populace to commit themselves to the vision of transforming the country.
“His bold declaration that ‘the black man is capable of managing his own affairs’ remains the bedrock of our national pride,” Mahama stated. “As we celebrate his unparalleled legacy today, I remind every Ghanaian at home and in the diaspora that the work of nation-building is not complete.”
He further charged citizens to set aside partisan divisions and champion patriotism in alignment with his proposed national restructuring plans.
“Let us draw strength from Osagyefo’s vision and contribute in our own way to attaining the Resetting Ghana Agenda. I charge us all to rise above division, embrace selfless patriotism, and work tirelessly toward economic freedom and social justice,” he added.
Mahama emphasized that just as the founding fathers secured political independence, the current generation carries the responsibility to deliver economic stability and equitable growth for all citizens.
