A court has remanded a senior clergyman into custody following allegations that he defrauded a vulnerable widow and illegally liquidated her late husband’s estate at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Central Region.
Prophet Sampson Seidu was remanded after law enforcement authorities intervened in the matter, following an emotional public appeal by the victim, Madam Gifty Moses.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Rainbow Radio’s flagship news programme, Nyankonton Mu Nsem, the distraught mother of one detailed how the man of God exploited her physical vulnerability and emotional grief during childbirth to seize control of vital estate documents.
According to Madam Moses, Prophet Seidu persuaded her to hand over land titles and vehicle ownership paperwork for housing complexes, retail units, a pick-up truck, and a Kia Rhino commercial vehicle just as she was entering the delivery room.
The clergyman allegedly claimed that placing the documents under his spiritual protection was necessary to prevent evil forces and intruders from stealing her family’s inheritance whilst she was in hospital.
However, after being discharged, repeated attempts by the widow to retrieve her documents were met with evasive responses and delays.
Subsequent investigations revealed that portions of the landed property had already been covertly placed on the market and sold to third parties without her authorization or knowledge.
Madam Moses disclosed that she had trusted the prophet entirely as her spiritual father, only to realize later that he had allegedly taken advantage of her labor pains and bereavement to dispossess her family of their assets.
Following her passionate appeal to the Ghana Police Service, human rights organizations, and traditional authorities, law enforcement agencies took swift action, leading to the clergyman’s arrest and subsequent arraignment.
The court remanded Prophet Sampson Seidu to allow the police to complete their investigation, retrieve the remaining estate documentation, and ascertain the full scale of the alleged fraud. Further proceedings are expected in due course.
